Bill Epping, Head Boys Tennis Coach
Coach Bill Epping has been with the Valor Boys and Girls Tennis programs since they began in 2008-2009. In these short four years, Coach Epping has seen both programs grow tremendously. On the boys’ side, the most successful season to date was 2011, where the Eagles went undefeated in the 4A Jeffco League (8-0). During this time, Coach Epping has seen 9 of his athletes qualify for the 4A State Tournament. His primary purpose in coaching at Valor is “to engage these young men and women in athletics and to help them continue to grow in their Christian faith.” Prior to Valor, Coach Epping helped lead the Castle Rock youth tennis program for 8 years and has had the opportunity to help develop many young tennis players.

Season Summary

The 2011 Boys Tennis season was full of high expectations and goals. By the end of the season, the boys had certainly attained those goals. First and foremost this young group of men honored Christ with their work ethic and sportsmanship throughout the season. Their biggest accomplishment came when they were awarded the sportsmanship award by the Jeffco coaches. As for the highlights on the courts, there were plenty of them to go around. The boys won the Air Academy tournament and the Windsor tournament this fall. With an 8-0 conference record, they recorded their 1st conference championship. The team finished with an 11-1 match record and placed 6 boys on 1st team All-Conference and 5 on 2nd team All-Conference. Erik Ratkelis was named MVP of the conference. They placed 2nd at the Kent Denver regional and sent 5 young men to the state tournament in Pueblo. The #2 doubles team of Jimmy Amundson/Mike Pistil li made it to the semi-finals of the state tournament and the boys as a team finished 11th in the state. Seniors Matt Guillod, Justin McGrane, Garrett Clay, Brad Kraatz and Captain Grant Cochran will be missed next season but their leadership and character will be felt for years to come. It was a breakout season for this team and they look forward to continuing to grow as young Christian men and honoring Christ in all they do.
