Lady Eagles Advance to Quarterfinals

May 14, 2013

The 4A State Playoffs started last week with your Lady Eagles receiving a #4 seed! That ranking allows for up to three home games and given the team is 10-0 at home during the playoffs, that is a significant advantage!

Tuesday’s matchup was against Skyview who brought a 13-1-1 record to the table. A focused and determined Valor team brought the fight to them as within the first 15 minutes the Eagles had a 2-0 lead. A strong showing by offense and defense again in the second half saw three more goals and a shutout victory. Of significance was having five different players contribute to the scoring (Amanda Lopez, Kelly Schunk, Allie Miller, Courtney Camden and Hannah Hommel) as well as another shutout for the defense and Kailey Norman in goal.

A win on Tuesday led to a 13th ranked Battle Mountain to Valor on Friday. Again, Valor was the aggressor from the start. Just 12 minutes into the game, Allie Miller ripped a strong header straight into the back of the net care off a great corner kick by Rachael Collins. Seven minutes later Hannah Hommel followed up with another goal with Amanda Lopez getting the assist. The Valor defense stayed strong allowing zero shots on goal in the first half. The game and another shutout victorywas sealed when Cydney Billups was put on goal by Hommel and she calmly slotted the ball into the back of the net for a final score of 3-0.

The Quarterfinal round takes place on Tuesday with another home game for Valor, this time against Air Academy. This game promises to be a fantastic matchup with the Lady Eagles coming in more focused than ever and playing the highest quality soccer of the season. Come out and support your Eagles tonight at 7:00pm!
